Crispy Oven-Baked Fries

Something very exciting has happened.
I have figured out the recipe for oven-baked potato fries for minimal oil & maximum crunch. The best part, it's SO EASY!

Before we get started though, I was asked to be part of Meg's One Story series on her blog where you learn a bit about other bloggers, and it gets a bit personal. My story is here if you're interested. Thanks Meg!

Okay, on to the fries now!
 You will need:
- Potatoes
- Water + handful of ice
- Olive Oil
- Seasonings of choice. I used sea salt, garlic powder & mixed herbs.

Let's do this!
1/ Preheat your oven to 180 degrees celcius/ 350 degrees farenheit.
2/ Peel and slice your potatoes. You can make them as thick as you want, we aren't dealing with sogginess anymore!
3/ Place your sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water and add a handful of ice. Let this soak for 30 minutes. This part of the process is key - it gets rid of the starch. Starch is what makes regular oven-baked fries so soggy, and is also what gives you that bloated feeling after eating too many potatoes. Getting rid of this serves twofold!
4/ Drain your potatoes and dry each one individually with paper towel. This sounds time consuming but it's worth it, trust me. Takes me about 5 minutes to get through four potatoes. It's not too bad!
5/ Add olive oil & season. Olive oil is optional, it just helps the seasoning stick better. I use about a teaspoon per potato.
6/ Place your potatoes on a baking tray lined with baking paper and pop into the oven for about 20 minutes. Flip halfway through. I leave mine for 25 minutes because I like it a little burnt.. anyone else?
7/ Serve the deliciousness!

Let me tell you, I'm obsessed. They taste sooo good and I can't stop eating them!

  1. These look good! I didn't know the water trick. Usually for crispy roasted potato I boil the pieces first, and then chuck them in the oven. I might try it your way next time.
