Roadtrip to Chefchaouen (#47)
To celebrate my moving to Morocco, the summertime and Soufiane's first holiday since he started his new job, he planned a roadtrip to Chefchaouen.
After many naps and many slaps across the face every time I fell asleep (thank you, Soufiane), we arrived in Chefchaouen 4 hours later. When we first arrived, I woke up sleepy from a nap and Soufiane said to me, jokingly "You are always talking about Chefchaouen! Well now you're here, what do you think?!" And I said "It looks better on Instagram" as a joke, but it kind of became the theme of the trip. As with most tourist destinations, it's much 'prettier' in photos but it still was a beautiful city. Albeit, probably not much more to do than to take photos as it is, just another city.
We spent the first night wondering around the city, eating tajine and taking photos... like the one below...
Our next day, however, was fun-filled thanks to Soufiane's plan. He had booked it in that we would do a hike in a place called Akchour - a waterfall mania! After hours of hiking, and me embarrassingly screaming and complaining at the scariness of it all (I also had a weird tension headache/vertigo thing going on that really affected my balance, and therefore confidence!) we finally made it to a peaceful and absolutely freezing waterfall that we decided to call home.
The next day, we visited Oued Laou which Soufiane had heard to have beautiful blue and clear oceans. As it was a bit of a colder day, it was virtually empty! So we set up camp - Loubna set up the tent, and Soufiane and Yahya set up the blow-up boat. After a couple of hours of napping, we realised it was probably too cold to go back into the water, so Soufiane and Yahya decided to bring out the fishing gear!
It was a really beautiful time in Chefchaouen, with lots of laughter and just being present. It was so refreshing to live in the moment and take photos like we used to, before filters and Instagram. It's refreshing to feel alive and present and with the people you love, for no other reason rather than that you love them.
